The basic definition of addiction- continue behavior or use of a substance despite harmful consequences. Those of us that have been in throes of addiction or have loved someone that is, know it goes so much deeper. It usually comes with trauma or a mental health condition alongside physical pain, multiple attempts to quit, anger, loss, fear, late night phone calls, criminal charges, relationship struggles and countless others.
Addictions can include
- Alcohol
- Illegal substance
- Sugar
- Porn
- Video Games
- Anything else you feel is taking over your life
This is difficult to navigate alone, but we often do because of shame or fear of judgement. Addiction at its core is a coping skill to deal with life’s struggles, and at that core can be healed with support, understanding and the right direction. If you are the one struggling with these or a loved one wanting support, let’s talk.
