Often the best therapist are those that have been in your chair
I started my therapist journey after working as a support staff in teen substance use, fell in love with the work and applied to a graduate program.
I came from a family with a long history of mental health issues, undiagnosed neurodivergence and substance use struggles. My empathy and understanding stems not only from strong work experience but personal.
I continued to work in support positions during school. In my internship and early years I spent time in different areas of mental health including; residential and outpatient substance use, serious mental health, residential youth care, private and non-profit care, domestic violence, jails/ prison, criminogenic population, veterans, families. There is almost nothing I haven’t seen and there is very little that shocks me at this point.
